Seth Godin offers good advice on reading business books over on his blog. As I embark on a week of holiday with a stack of books to read I found it timely and interesting..
Many people now touch type, a skill once reserved for secretaries and it saves them so much time but given the ratio of reading to typing knowledge workers do in their day to day I am constantly amazed at how few have taken the time to learn speed reading.
I took speed reading in high-school and although I am not fast by speed reading standards I can get through a book, reading and absorbing it all faster than most. I strongly recommend learning the basics if you can find the time ![]()
On the flip side I still struggle with touch typing.. I can do it if I concentrate but spent too many years as a CAD technician, one hand on the keyboard and one on the mouse. Its how I am most comfortable but i know it slows me down..
We all have things to master, what’s the one skill you feel allows you to work faster day to day?
